Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, how LearnPath uses them on our website, what types of cookies we use, and how you can control your cookie preferences. This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

Quick Summary

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit websites. We use cookies to understand how visitors interact with our platform and to remember your preferences. You have the right to accept or reject non-essential cookies at any time. Essential cookies that are necessary for the website to function cannot be disabled, but they do not collect personal information for marketing purposes.

If you have questions about our use of cookies, you can contact us at [email protected].

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer, smartphone, tablet, or other device when you visit a website. They are widely used across the internet to make websites work more efficiently and to provide information to website operators. Cookies allow a website to recognize your device, remember your preferences, and understand how you interact with the site over time.

Cookies are stored in your web browser's cookie directory. Each cookie typically contains the name of the domain that placed the cookie, the lifespan of the cookie (how long it will remain on your device), and a value, which is usually a randomly generated unique number or short string of text.

Cookies can be classified as either "first-party cookies" or "third-party cookies." First-party cookies are set by the website you are visiting directly (in this case, the LearnPath website). Third-party cookies are set by a domain other than the one you are visiting, such as an analytics service or advertising network. We explain both types further in this document.

Additionally, cookies can be categorized by their duration. "Session cookies" are temporary and are deleted from your device when you close your web browser. "Persistent cookies" remain on your device for a set period of time or until you manually delete them. The specific duration varies depending on the purpose and type of cookie.

It is worth noting that cookies are not programs and cannot carry viruses or install malware on your device. They are simply small data files that serve specific functions related to your browsing experience.

2. How We Use Cookies

LearnPath uses cookies for several purposes related to the operation and improvement of our educational platform. We do not use cookies to collect sensitive personal information, and we do not sell cookie data to third parties. Our use of cookies falls into the following general categories:

  • Essential website functionality: Some cookies are necessary for the website to operate properly. These cookies enable core functions such as page navigation, security features, and access to certain areas of the site. Without these cookies, the website cannot function as intended.
  • Remembering your preferences: We use cookies to remember choices you make on the website, such as your cookie consent preference. This means you do not have to re-enter your preferences each time you visit.
  • Understanding website usage: We use analytics cookies to collect anonymous, aggregated data about how visitors use our website. This includes information such as which pages are visited most frequently, how long visitors spend on certain pages, and how visitors navigate between pages. This information helps us understand what content is useful and where we can make improvements.
  • Performance monitoring: Certain cookies help us identify and resolve technical issues. For example, if a page loads slowly or produces an error, performance cookies may help us diagnose the problem so we can address it.

We review our cookie usage periodically to ensure that we are only using cookies that serve a clear and legitimate purpose. If we add new types of cookies in the future, we will update this policy accordingly and, where required, obtain your consent before placing them on your device.

3. Types of Cookies We Use

The following table describes the categories of cookies used on the LearnPath website, along with their purpose and whether they require your consent:

Essential Cookies (Strictly Necessary)

No consent required

These cookies are required for the basic operation of the website. They enable fundamental functions such as page navigation, form submissions, and security features. The website cannot function properly without these cookies, and they cannot be disabled through our cookie consent mechanism.

Examples: Session management cookies, CSRF (Cross-Site Request Forgery) protection tokens, load balancing cookies, and cookie consent preference storage.

Duration: Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. The cookie consent preference cookie persists until you clear your browser data or change your preference.

Analytics Cookies

Consent required

Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with the LearnPath website by collecting and reporting information anonymously. The data gathered through these cookies helps us identify popular content, understand navigation patterns, and improve the overall quality and structure of our educational materials.

Examples: Google Analytics cookies that track page views, session duration, bounce rate, and traffic sources. These cookies use randomly generated identifiers and do not contain personally identifiable information.

Duration: Typically between 30 minutes and 13 months, depending on the specific cookie. Google Analytics cookies generally expire after 2 years if the user does not return to the website.

Functional Cookies (Preferences)

Consent required

Functional cookies allow the website to remember choices you have made in the past, such as your preferred language, region, or display settings. They enhance your experience by personalizing the website based on your prior interactions. These cookies do not track your browsing activity on other websites.

Examples: Cookies that store your language preference, text size preference, or whether you have previously dismissed a notification banner.

Duration: Typically 30 days to 12 months, depending on the specific preference being stored.

Cookies We Do Not Use

LearnPath does not use advertising cookies, retargeting cookies, or social media tracking cookies. We do not serve display advertisements on our website, and we do not participate in behavioural advertising networks. If this changes in the future, we will update this policy and request your consent before deploying any such cookies.

The following is a list of the specific cookies currently used on the LearnPath website:

Cookie Name Provider Purpose Type Duration
cookie_consent LearnPath Stores your cookie consent preference (accepted or rejected) Essential Persistent (localStorage)
_ga Google Analytics Distinguishes unique visitors by assigning a randomly generated number Analytics 2 years
_ga_[ID] Google Analytics Used to persist session state across page requests Analytics 2 years
_gid Google Analytics Distinguishes unique visitors within a 24-hour window Analytics 24 hours
_gat Google Analytics Throttles request rate to limit data collection on high-traffic sites Analytics 1 minute

We review this list periodically and update it when cookies are added, removed, or modified. The most recent review was conducted on January 15, 2026.

5. Third-Party Cookies

In some cases, cookies may be placed on your device by third-party services that we use to support our website. These cookies are governed by the respective third party's own cookie and privacy policies, not by this Cookie Policy. We encourage you to review those policies directly if you have concerns about third-party data collection.

The primary third-party service that may set cookies on our website is Google Analytics, which is provided by Google LLC (headquartered at 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA). Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymous statistical data about website usage. Google processes this data in accordance with its own privacy policy, which can be reviewed at google.com/policies/privacy.

We have configured Google Analytics with the following privacy-protective settings:

  • IP anonymization is enabled, meaning the last portion of your IP address is masked before it is stored by Google.
  • Data sharing with Google for advertising purposes is disabled.
  • We do not enable demographic or interest reporting features.
  • Data retention is set to 14 months, after which data associated with individual cookie identifiers is automatically deleted.

We do not currently use any other third-party services that place cookies on your device. If we integrate additional services in the future (such as embedded videos or interactive tools), we will update this policy to include details about any new cookies those services may place.

6. How to Manage Cookies

You have several options for managing cookies on the LearnPath website:

Cookie Consent Banner

When you first visit our website, a cookie consent banner appears in the bottom-right corner. You can choose to accept or reject non-essential cookies. Your preference is stored locally on your device so that the banner does not reappear on subsequent visits.

Browser Settings

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can configure your browser to block all cookies, block only third-party cookies, or delete cookies that have already been set. See Section 7 for browser-specific instructions.

Clear Existing Cookies

You can delete cookies that have already been placed on your device through your browser's settings. This will also remove your cookie consent preference, meaning the consent banner will appear again on your next visit.

Private Browsing

Using your browser's private or incognito mode prevents cookies from being stored beyond the current session. Any cookies set during a private browsing session are automatically deleted when you close the browser window.

To reset your cookie preferences on our website, you can clear your browser's local storage for our domain. This will reset the cookie consent banner so you can make a new choice.

7. Browser-Specific Instructions

Each web browser provides its own methods for managing cookies. Below are general instructions for the most commonly used browsers. Because browser interfaces update frequently, the exact menu names and locations may vary slightly depending on your browser version.

Google Chrome

Open Settings, navigate to Privacy and Security, then select Cookies and Other Site Data. From this menu you can block third-party cookies, block all cookies, or clear existing cookies. You can also manage exceptions for specific websites.

Mozilla Firefox

Open Settings, go to Privacy and Security, and look for the Cookies and Site Data section. Firefox offers Enhanced Tracking Protection with Standard, Strict, and Custom modes that let you control which cookies are allowed.

Safari (macOS and iOS)

Open Safari Preferences (or Settings on iOS), navigate to Privacy, and adjust your cookie-blocking preferences. Safari blocks third-party cookies by default and includes Intelligent Tracking Prevention to limit cross-site tracking.

Microsoft Edge

Open Settings, go to Cookies and Site Permissions, then select Manage and Delete Cookies and Site Data. Edge provides options to block third-party cookies, block all cookies, and manage per-site cookie permissions.

When you first visit the LearnPath website, you are presented with a cookie consent banner that provides two options: Accept and Reject. Your choice applies to non-essential cookies only. Essential cookies that are necessary for the website to function are placed regardless of your consent choice, as permitted under applicable privacy laws including Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the relevant principles of the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for visitors from the EU.

If you click "Accept," analytics and functional cookies will be enabled on your device. If you click "Reject," only essential cookies will be used. Your consent preference is stored in your browser's local storage so that it persists across visits.

You can withdraw or change your consent at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for our website. Once cleared, the cookie consent banner will appear again on your next visit, allowing you to make a new choice.

9. Impact of Disabling Cookies

If you choose to reject non-essential cookies or disable cookies through your browser settings, the core content and educational materials on LearnPath will still be fully accessible. However, some features may be affected:

  • Your cookie consent preference may not be remembered, meaning you may see the consent banner on every visit.
  • We will be unable to collect anonymous analytics data about your visit, which means your feedback as a visitor will not be reflected in our usage reports. This data helps us improve the website, so your participation through analytics cookies is appreciated (though entirely optional).
  • Any preference-based features (such as remembering display settings) may not work as expected.

Disabling all cookies (including essential ones) through your browser may cause certain website functions to behave unexpectedly. For example, form submissions may not work correctly, and navigation between secure pages may be interrupted. We recommend keeping essential cookies enabled for the best browsing experience.

10. Do Not Track Signals

Some web browsers include a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature that sends a signal to websites you visit, indicating that you do not want to be tracked. There is currently no universally accepted standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals, and many websites (including major platforms) do not alter their behaviour in response to DNT requests.

At this time, the LearnPath website does not specifically respond to DNT signals. However, you can manage your tracking preferences through our cookie consent banner and your browser's cookie settings, as described in this policy. We will continue to monitor developments regarding DNT standards and may update our approach if a widely accepted standard emerges.

11. Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our use of cookies, changes in the services we use, or changes in applicable laws and regulations. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.

If the changes are significant (for example, if we begin using a new type of cookie such as advertising cookies), we will take reasonable steps to notify you, which may include displaying a prominent notice on our website or resetting your consent preference so that you have the opportunity to review and accept or reject the updated cookie practices.

We encourage you to review this Cookie Policy periodically to stay informed about how we use cookies. Your continued use of the LearnPath website after changes are posted constitutes your acknowledgment of the modified policy.
